Some witnesses claimed that the plane plunged into the Java Sea. Rescuers have been on a search for survivors since then and have found some human remains. Although, Lion Air chief executive, Edward Sirait, said that the plane which experienced the crash had a "technical problem" on a previous flight, which was resolved "according to procedure".
The incident was highly traumatic for the families and friends of the victims who rushed to Jakarta airport and Headquarters of Search and Rescue Agency to hear some news about their loved ones while praying for them. Wife of Muhammed Syafii, a passenger on board, told while sobbing:

Indonesia is the largest Muslim country with a population approximately 225 Million Muslims. Most of the victims are believed to be Muslims who are in dire need of prayers from our Muslim Ummah. May Allah grant Sabr (patience) to their families and grant forgiveness to all our Muslim brothers and sisters who passed away in this tragic accident. To learn the prayers (duas) for deceased, read Duas for deceased and Duas for Jannah. It is said in Quran that:
“Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.” (Surah Imran:185)See also: Quranic verses about death
