It’s not something new that Muslims living in various parts of the world, particularly non-Muslim states, face immense measures of hardships due to the rising sentiment of Islamophobia. Just like that, this is another case of a teenage boy. A young Syrian refugee, Jamal, got bullied at a school in West Yorkshire, UK. The 15-year-old Syrian refugee told Huffington Post that:
“When the video came out, I felt ashamed and was scared of people coming to my home and doing something. I was threatened with being stabbed and I would wake up crying after having dreams about people stabbing me.”He also stated that when Tommy Robinson made accusations on video saying he’d hurt girls at the school, he got scared thinking people might believe this to be true even though it wasn’t. Although, Jamal told that he did not want the bully attacked as he wants no harm inflicted to anyone but only hopes things to get better. This was posted on The Guardian. A video on ilmfeed was posted:
The incident occurred at Almondbury Community School in Huddersfield a few months back and led to widespread condemnation when footage was circulated on social media and viewed millions of times. Eventually, footage of Jamal being ‘water boarded’ by a 16 years old bully, Tommy Robinson, went viral on social media resulting in outrage, and the subsequent outcry. The online footage of the assault led to an outpouring support for the Syrian teenager and a GoFundMe page was launched which raised more than £158,000. Jamal said:
“I did not ask for the money. I just wanted support and for the bullying to stop. It wasn’t me who posted the video online – it was one of the bullies. But I am very grateful for all the money people raised. It made me realize there are good people and the world is not just about bullying.”Now, he is planning to set up an anti-bullying charity with a GoFundMe campaign he set up and has already raised more than £158,000. Jamal says he plans to start an anti-bullying campaign as he believes there are a lot of bullied children suffering in silence.
“The charity will be for everyone – for people of all colors, races, and religions…I want people to know they are not alone and that I will stand up for them if they are being bullied.”An organization named Human Concern International currently works in providing donations for people of Syria, Yemen, Myanmar and various other regions where our fellow Muslims need assistance the most. We urge you to make some effort and donate. Verily Allah (SWT) will reward you for your good deeds.
Nonetheless, there have been many other cases that have led Muslims becoming victims due to Islamophobia. Now, even some TV shows like Skam and Elite are being aired to change this stereotype. May Allah(SWT) gives us and we pray that our fellow Muslims get the strength to face difficulties with Patience! We pray that such discrimination for Muslims and the issue of Islamophobia decreases overtime. Ameen.
